This project entailed the construction of a brand-new, 132kV Digital Transmission Substation at Badgerys Creek in Western Sydney. This facility – delivered on behalf of our repeat-client Endeavour Energy – provides electricity to the new Western Sydney International Airport as part of the NSW Government’s mammoth Western Sydney Aerotropolis project.
The facility is a first for Endeavour Energy: the first Digital Transmission substation, and the largest indoor transmission substation in the Endeavour Network. It also houses a unique layout: two rooms of 132kV G.I.S., two 32kV switchrooms and 2 control rooms for the digital/fibre-optic technology. The facility is unique in that it houses – which shares similarities with recent Haslin projects such as the Marayong Zone Substation and Macquarie Park Sub-Transmission Substation – saw Haslin undertaking construction of:
- Main (control) building;
- Two transformer bays;
- Conduits and pits;
- Driveways, pavements, hardstand areas, etc.;
- Switchyard surfaces;
- Retaining wall;
- Services, including stormwater, sewerage, potable water, general light and power,
- Mechanical, fire systems, security system, etc.;
- Two (2) overhead cranes in the 132 kV switchrooms;
- Photovoltaic (PV) system;
- Fencing and gates, including inner security fence and outer post-and-rail fence;
- Earthing and lightning protection;
- On-site detention tank;
- Landscaping.
