This project involved a vital D&C accessibility upgrade of the verdant, S60 heritage-listed Wahroonga Station, delivered as part of TfNSW’s visionary TAP Program. The upgrade centred around construction of a lift, a platform extension, accessible ramps and walkways, upgraded toilet facilities, accessible parking, and improvements to lighting, CCTV and customer information systems. The upgrade also involved extensive remediation of the Redleaf Avenue Bridge, ensuring its utility for the next generation.

Wahroonga Station is located on a narrow stretch of land located below street level, making the works all the more complex. Throughout, Haslin’s advanced coordination, transparent stakeholder engagement and stringent safety standards meant that we achieved our client’s objectives despite site constraints. One such example is Haslin’s adoption of a Cut & Lift crane methodology, to ensure the bridge replacement could take place safely despite the tight space for plant.

The project was staged around milestone rail shutdowns, meticulously coordinated by the Haslin project team. Of course, a rail shutdown is a major commuter headache, and Haslin undertook constant engagement with TfNSW, Sydney Trains, TMC, Commuters, Residents, Motorists and Local Businesses in order to ensure harmonious execution. Traffic Management on this project was of paramount importance, and Haslin sought to maintain at least single-lane access on Redleaf Bridge whenever possible.

Transport for NSW and Haslin did extensive work through the design phase to ensure that the finished product is finished to the station’s existing heritage features. One such example is Haslin’s salvaging original brickwork, then re-using it / matching it with newer brickwork. This project was the 5th in a long line of TAP Upgrades that Haslin have proudly delivered hand-in-hand with our client Transport for NSW.
