Stanmore Station TAP Upgrade

Sector Transport
Year 2022-23
Location Sydney, NSW
Client Transport for NSW
Value $22M

This landmark upgrade of Stanmore Station is part of two NSW Government initiatives: the Transport Access Program and Safer Cities Program.The upgrade significantly enhanced this s170 Heritage station, which is now fully accessible to people with disabilities, limited mobility, parents/carers with prams and customers with luggage. Delivered proudly by Haslin on behalf of Transport for NSW, the scope of works included:

  • Installation of two new lifts, providing access to all platforms;
  • Family and easily accessible toilets on Platforms 1 & 2;
  • An accessible ramp from the station to Trafalgar Street;
  • Regrading of the station underpass, entrance and Douglas Street concourse;
  • New kiss and ride bay on Douglas Street;
  • A new accessible parking space on Douglas Street; and
  • Various other safety and electrical improvements.

These works were delivered hand-in-hand with the vibrant Stanmore community, with Haslin working tirelessly to ensure minimal commuter interruptions. One such example is Haslin’s innovative excavation methodology for the lift shaft, with a series of conveyer belts utilised to ensure that the pedestrian underpass could remain open during works.

Another salient feature of this project are the artworks that adorn the two underpass lift entryways. These vibrant tableaus were created by Indigenous artist Maddison Gibbs and mark Australia’s long history, representing the tracks that lie underneath our modern railways.
