Year Completed 2018
Location Trewilga, NSW
The Newell Highway is the major road link between Brisbane and Melbourne, and a crucial freight artery for the country. This project entailed a 6.4km upgrade of the highway, incorporating 2.5km of brand new road, 3.9km of existing highway upgrades, 7 Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert crossings, 10 Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culvert crossings, 2 Intersection upgrades and 7 Property Access driveways.
The new alignment provides a safer passage through improved road geometry over the older sections of highway. It also provides greater durability to a section of ageing highway. HASLIN worked hand-in-hand with RMS and other stakeholders to deliver a safe, high quality road project that enhances this vital piece of national infrastructure.
For Haslin, the social legacy of this project was as important as the pavement itself, and we were delighted to spend 52% of the contract value in the region, and achieve 6.7% project spend on Aboriginal participation, well over the contract target of 1.5%.
“It is rewarding working on a major road project… Being able to stand there and look at a piece of road that all of us have contributed to… There’s a bit of a legacy from doing that.”
Brooke Emmet, Project Manager
