Sector Water + Wastewater
Projected Completion May 2016
Location Forbes, NSW
Client Parkes Shire Council
Value $1m
This project entailed the construction of a 13m deep, Raw Water Pump Station adjacent to the vital NSW tributary that is the Lachlan River. Works include construction of a new pump station, intake structure, control building, 3.6m diameter precast concrete pump well, intake backwash system and compressed air cleaning system and all the associated pipework, controls and electrical infrastructure (switchboard + telemetry). Also vital to this project was the process of cutting into the existing reticulation system and connection to existing flow pits.
In order to complete the submerged works, a 30 x 6m sheet pile coffer dam was installed in the ever-flowing Lachlan River. Significant excavation was undertaken on both the river bank and river bed, followed by construction of deflector screens, concrete support elements and rock protection. To ensure that the health of the ecosystem is maintained to the fullest, the river bank will be rebuilt upon project completion and rehabilitated with native species.
“The pump station ensures the future water demands of the Parkes and Peak Hill regions are satisfied, based on future developments planned in these areas.”
