Sector Energy
Year Completed 2016
Location Rockdale, NSW
Client Ausgrid
Value $4.7m

The Rockdale Zone Substation project entailed the construction of a 132/11kV electrical substation to replace the existing, lower capacity facility. Works involved the construction of a new switchroom building and cable marshalling area, two transformer bays replete with blast walls and parallel plate oil separation system, an underground 11kV feeder conduit installation, extension of the existing roadway and a new paved parking area.

Given the facility’s location within the community, special attention was paid to the aesthetic features of the substation, which included sunshade louvres and attractive green paint. Indeed the design of the substation is somewhat revolutionary in that it’s the first of its kind to incorporate a metal-clad building as opposed to the traditional brick or blockwork.

The facility forms part of Ausgrid’s extensive electrical infrastructure upgrade for the region, replacing older substations in Rockdale and Arncliffe, and – alongside projects such as Huntingwood Zone Substation and Eraring Attempering Reservoir and Pump Station – is a further example of HASLIN’s expertise in delivering crucial energy infrastructure.
